Why I got rid of the contact page and why I decided to add a blog
When I initially created this website, I didn't have much of a plan to publish it. The whole idea was created for a college project, so I didn't see much need to expose it to the broader internet. Later, when I was looking for a job, I decided it was the perfect time to finish the site. While I was updating the site, I decided to change many aspects. One of the changes I made was the implementation of my résumé. My main consideration was the inclusion of my business email on the site.
Primarily, I was concerned that if I let my email out to the public, I would get spammed from all over the internet. At the time, it also seemed like a good way to separate messages coming from my portfolio and messages coming from other places. In the end, I decided to use a contact page rather than including an email. This, of course, ended up still getting spam messages, but I didn’t see that as too much of a problem.
More recently, one of my college friends created their own website, which he used as a blog. I’d also been seeing more people deciding to leave big social media sites and use more specific, purpose-built websites. All this made me start feeling as though a blog would be a good idea.
Additionally, I recently got a new contract, so my immediate need for employment wasn’t as strong as it was when I made this site. All this came together to push me towards replacing my contact form with a blog.
I never really wanted this site to be a popular thing. I haven’t done any SEO, nor do I want to, as I’ve grown a lot colder towards marketing in general. This whole thing is more of a plan to toss my random ideas out into the void. The whole site is more of an repository of my personal and professional interests than a sales pitch to me. I plan on posting here fairly often, as I have many interest that I feel don’t deserve unique pages or whole big sections.
I look forward to posting here more as I continue to learn and explore strange new hobbies. Maybe I’ll even use it for writing practice, or explanations on some of my art pieces. Updates on programming projects or new things I’ve felt like talking about.
A lot of what I heard about this newer, smaller internet hinges on linking between similar sites. Seeing as this is a pinned post, it feels like the right place to post this information. Here's the list so far:
